The homeless community will soon have a new resource for some short-term affordable housing! The Least of These Ministry (TLOT) recently executed a lease agreement for the property formerly operated as Apple Valley Motel, located at 5063 Franklin Road in Roanoke. TLOT plans to offer an extended-stay motel model for those in need of shelter, including but not limited to individuals experiencing homelessness. With support from this community, we plan to launch Suites by TLOT in January 2024.
Suites by TLOT will host approximately 30 people in 19 individual suites. The suites will be fully furnished with a full-size bed, private bathroom, microwave, apartment-sized refrigerator, dresser, television, and more. In addition, TLOT has plans to provide a shuttle service to downtown Roanoke, approximately three days a week, in order to accommodate guests’ transportation needs.
This is not a free housing model. Guests will be required to pay an affordable rental rate (daily/weekly/monthly).
TLOT will be hosting multiple community events, scheduled in November and December, offering members of the community an opportunity to roll up their sleeves and get directly involved in preparing the suites for their first guests, expected in January 2024. The date and times for these community events will be posted on Facebook, Instagram, and X.
A project of this magnitude, focused on assisting the valley’s unsheltered population, will require a concerted effort from the non-profit, business AND private sector of our community. We are hoping to raise $100,000 in order to assist with financing the start-up and operational costs related to this project.
