The Hustle for the Homeless 5K is a fundraiser that raises money for The Least of These Ministry which offers support to Roanoke’s homeless community. The event was created as an opportunity for competitive runners to compete for awards as well as for families and friends to come together in support of a worthy cause. Check out this video from WFXR in 2021 which explains why this event is so important for the community.
For competitive runners, awards are presented to the top 3 finishing males and the top 3 finishing females. Age group awards will also be presented. To be eligible for an award, runners must participate in the live event. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards. The 2023 Hustle garnered support from more than 400 participants and volunteers. “The purpose of the Hustle for the Homeless is two-fold,” says TLOT founder Dawn Sandoval. “The first purpose is to create awareness for the issue of homelessness in the Roanoke Valley. The second is to raise money so we can continue offering resources to the men and women living on the streets and hopefully help them find affordable housing."
