Faces of Homelessness
Have you ever truly wondered what the face of homelessness looks like? Imagine a young man that grew up in the foster system. He has absolutely no family. He works two jobs. With the assistance of TLOT and our supporters, he was able to secure his first home at 32 years old. Prior to that, he was living on the streets while going to work every day. He now pays his rent faithfully but he is terrified to heat his home because he is afraid he can’t afford the electric bill. He sleeps fully clothed so he isn’t cold. THIS...is the face of homelessness.
Envision a mother with a young daughter fleeing a violent marriage. She moves to a new state with no support system in order to be far away from her abuser. Despite finding work, she couldn't save enough money to pay a deposit, first-month’s rent, and required utility deposits forcing them to endure almost two years of homelessness. She contacted TLOT and, with help from our community, mom and daughter are now sleeping in their own apartment! They were blessed with the opportunity to enjoy a warm home, a Christmas tree, and much peace and joy for the first time in a long time!
