TLOT FACILITY GETS A MAKEOVER
You’ve heard the saying, “What a difference a day makes.” For us, it’s what a difference a COMMUNITY makes! WOW, we have to update you on what’s been happening around the building on Luck Avenue:
• We have freshly painted walls in our waiting area that completely uplift the room our unsheltered friends sit in and wait for services. • We finally have FLOORS (Yes, FLOORS!!!) in the waiting area, too! • We have new, sturdy benches for our friends to sit on! Thank you to Elevation Church, Cave Spring Baptist Church and Eagles Nest Regeneration. Praise to the Father!!! |
WE NEED A NEW WARMING BUS!
During the 2024 winter months, Hope Haven, our 26-passenger warming bus, developed terminal mechanical issues and, unfortunately, she is not repairable. Aside from the fact that she is 27 years old, it has become an impossibility to find parts for her. The services she offers are SO vital to our unsheltered friends and their pets all over the Roanoke Valley!
When winter temperatures and/or precipitation sets in, the shelter and warmth that she provides is often the difference between life and death! Last winter alone, Hope Haven provided 972 unsheltered individuals and their pets with warmth and safety! Here are some ways that our TLOT Tribe could possibly help: 1. Please let us know if you know an organization/church/individual that may have a 26+ passenger bus that they are willing to sell or donate. 2. Consider making a financial donation to assist with the purchase of a used bus 3. SHARE our need for a new bus! |
mISSION MOMENTS
"I thank God for it!"
Can you believe Suites by TLOT opened six months ago!? 63-year-old John Collier has been renting a room since February, using his disability check to pay. For Collier, he says having a roof over his head and a warm bed at night is a blessing. Watch his full story here! |
Our friends are HUNGRY for the Word of God!
A big shout of gratitude to Salem Church of Christ for providing this brand new Bible for Kevin, one of our guests, who wanted a study Bible in order to go deeper in his learning of God’s words. And of course, thank you, Lord, for these opportunities to grow Your kingdom! |

scenes around the ministry
We are preparing for our annual Dining with Dignity event at Elmwood Park on September 28! This event offers our unsheltered friends a fine-dining experience with meals served by uniformed servers. For more information on serving, visit our Facebook page! You can also support this event with a financial donation.
|
Over the summer, we had a record-breaking number of guests that were served at our facility! We actually served 97 unsheltered friends in ONE DAY! Are you willing to volunteer? Send us a Facebook message & we will be happy to get you plugged in! For additional information on volunteering, see the "Help Needed" section below! You can also help meet important tangible needs via our Amazon wish list.

Ministry needs: how you can help!
Financial Donations:
As we continue to serve our unsheltered friends by way of the facility, directly at the street level, and now through Suites by TLOT, financial donations are vital to continue our mission. Donations can be made via our PayPal link or you can mail a check directly to our home office address at 602 Marshall Ave SW, Roanoke, VA, 24016. |
Help Needed:
If you have a heart for people and have the availability, we would love to partner with you in service!
If you have a heart for people and have the availability, we would love to partner with you in service!
- Facility Volunteers – This role includes ensuring that our unsheltered guests get checked in and are provided with lunch and facilitating shower and laundry services on a Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday, from 11:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. or until closing duties are complete. We will gladly work with you to determine dates that work for you! If you're interested in volunteering, send us a message on Facebook messenger or you can email us at [email protected]!
- Loving Lunches – Volunteers are invited to purchase/prepare enough food for approximately 75-80 people and deliver to the TLOT headquarters, located at 422 Luck Avenue, by 12:00 noon. Through the provision of these "loving lunches," our friends will have the opportunity to enjoy a meal while waiting their turn to shower and/or launder their clothes. If you're interested in providing a lunch, click here!
